  • Iseongsanseong Mountain Fortress, a Historical Site from the Three Kingdoms Period located in Hanam City, Gyeonggi Province, underwent a total of 11 Official Academic Excavation Surveys over more than 20 years, starting with the first excavation in 1986 and continuing through 2006. Conducting such systematic, long-term research on a single historical site is rare in Korea, clearly demonstrating its immense historical importance.

Iseongsanseong is a Stone-Walled Mountain Fortress from the Three Kingdoms Period and has been highlighted as one of the significant sites of the Hanseong Baekje Period, with speculations suggesting it may be the legendary Hanam Wiryeseong alongside Pungnaptoseong and Mongchontoseong.

Through the excavation surveys, it was confirmed that Iseongsanseong was an Ancient Mountain Fortress primarily used during the Late Silla to Unified Silla Period and served as a Major Battleground for the Three Kingdoms—Goguryeo, Baekje, and Silla—over the Han River Basin.

2006 marked the 20th anniversary since the start of the Iseongsanseong excavation. To celebrate this milestone, Hanyang University Museum planned an exhibition illuminating the daily life within Iseongsanseong, which functioned as a Forefront Outpost. We hope this offers an opportunity for modern people to connect with this ancient site and experience the Mindset of the Ancients.
