  • Hanyang University Museum is hosting the Special Exhibition, "Expansion of the Senses, The Electronic Era," which introduces its Modern and Contemporary Industrial Technology History Collection. This exhibition is part of the 2021 Modern and Contemporary History Museum Partnership Program organized by the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History. It reexamines the developmental history of familiar Electronic Devices such as TVs, radios, telephones, and computers through the lens of human senses and experience.

Through this exhibition, the Analog Electronic Calculator No. 3 (Registered Cultural Heritage No. 558), created by Dr. Lee Man-young in 1964, is once again being revealed to the public after five years. Furthermore, the exhibition offers a comprehensive look at the developmental history of computers, including the Mainframe Computer 'UNIVAC90/30' used at Hanyang University in the 1970s and Korea's first Personal Computer, 'Sambo SE-8001.'

In the section, "Expansion of the Senses in Daily Life: Hearing and Seeing," the processes by which people sought to record better sound and vivid images are introduced through the developmental history of audio equipment and television. Additionally, in "Expansion of Communication: The World Met by Telephone," visitors can trace the history of communicating and conveying world stories via telephone, from the 1960s Ministry of Communications telephone to current smartphones.

This exhibition is composed of Donations and Collections from alumni and faculty, including Professor Emeritus Lee Joong-geun of the Department of Electronic Engineering, who donated over 500 Artifacts related to industrial technology history, as well as Choi Dal-yong (Patent Attorney, Class of '66, Electronic Engineering), Lee Jeong-sung (Nam June Paik's Art Technician), Bae Ki-dong (former Director of the National Museum of Korea and Professor Emeritus of Cultural Anthropology), and Professor Kim Jeong-soo (Department of Korean Language and Literature). It is expected to provide a valuable opportunity to contemplate and relate to our lives and Socio-Cultural Phenomena through the developmental history of Electronic Devices.
