CEMENT: MOMENT_Cement Aesthetics III ≪Poiēsis, Stacking or Crushing≫
'Poiēsis' is a Greek word meaning 'making' or 'production,' a meaning that gradually expanded to encompass the technical and productive activities of building architecture, as well as the artistic act of writing poetry. Artist Kim Sang-gyun, who develops "architectural sculpture" works, traces the identity of architecture in urban space while paradoxically speaking about its absence. The artist repeatedly deconstructs and reconstructs—stacking or crushing—the facades of buildings made of concrete to reassemble their meaning.
Cement is a material representative of this era and is always present beside us.
We hope that contemplating Artist Kim Sang-gyun's work, constructed with cement and concrete, will provide an opportunity to consider the meaning of the urban spaces and lives we inhabit.
