Hanyang Museum Academy, 12th Cohort, Lectures 4–5 <Remembering Through Records: Human History and Culture Seen Through Documentation>
Lecture 4
From Goryeo to Joseon: Reading Historical Records Through Clothing
Kim Yoon-jung (Former Research Fellow, Seoul Museum of History)
Lecture 5
European Portrait Painting and Portrait Sculpture
Park Jeong-ho (Professor, Department of Archaeology and Art History, Seoul National University)
In Lecture 4, participants explored clothing and dress culture from the Goryeo and Joseon periods. By examining changes in official court attire alongside their political, social, and cultural contexts, the lecture offered an especially engaging and informative perspective on the meanings embedded in dress.
In Lecture 5, the lecturer organized the meanings of portrait paintings and portrait sculptures into nine thematic categories, including religious devotion, national pride, and social wealth or status. This approach enabled participants to uncover deeper, previously unseen meanings within the artworks.
