📖 Lecture 1: “The Korean Empire, the First Step Toward a New Era”
With Professor Seo Young-hee (Department of Knowledge Convergence, Korea University of Technology and Education).
This session explored the Korean Empire not as a continuation of late Joseon but as a new attempt and vision toward a modern nation.
🏙 Lecture 2: “The Dream of the Imperial Capital Engraved in Space”
With Professor Yeom Bok-kyu (Department of Korean History, University of Seoul).
Through the modern capital Seoul envisioned by the Korean Empire and the symbolism embedded in its urban space, we were able to understand the Empire’s vision for its capital.
✨ This cohort of the Academy explores the modern aspirations of the Korean Empire beyond politics and institutions, delving into cultural practices in urban planning, architecture, crafts, photography, and more.
