Hello, this is the Hanyang University Museum😊

The 15th Cohort of the Hanyang Museum Academy, To Modernity, the Korean Empire Dream, has now reached Lecture 4.

🏙 Lecture 3 – “Reading the Opening and the Korean Empire through Cities and Architecture”

With Professor Changmo Ahn (Department of Architecture, Kyonggi University).

This lecture explored the urban and architectural changes after the opening of Korea and examined the efforts and vision of the Korean Empire to move toward a modern state.

🚶‍♀ Lecture 4 – “Historical Sites of the Korean Empire: Jeong-dong and Deoksugung Palace”

Alongside Professor Changmo Ahn, participants toured the Jeong-dong area to directly experience the historical significance of spaces that served as the political and cultural centers of the Korean Empire.

The field visit allowed for a deeper understanding of the ideals of a new era envisioned by the Korean Empire and their symbolism through urban planning and architecture.

🏛 Upcoming Lecture 5 (Oct 30, Thu)

Instructor Kiran Kim (School of Drama, Korea National University of Arts) will continue the series with “The Korean Empire Creation Project – Cultural Performances Directed by Gojong”.

This lecture will explore the ideals of the Korean Empire that Emperor Gojong sought to realize through culture and the arts, as well as the significance of these cultural projects.

✨ This Academy series continues to examine the modern visions of the Korean Empire through diverse cultural practices, including urban planning, architecture, crafts, and photography.

We look forward to your continued interest and participation in the remaining lectures😊

Thank you💙
