Cement:Moment_Cement Aesthetics III
≪Poiēsis, Stacking or Letting Collapse≫
‘Poiēsis [포이에시스]’ is a Greek word meaning “making” or “production.” Over time, its meaning has expanded to encompass not only the technical and productive activities of constructing buildings, but also artistic acts such as composing poetry.
Artist Kim Sang-gyun, who has developed a practice of “architectural sculpture,” traces the identity of the architecture that shapes the urban spaces we inhabit, while paradoxically speaking about absence within them. He repeatedly dismantles and recomposes the façades of concrete buildings—stacking them up, or letting them collapse—and in doing so, reassembles their meanings.
A material that represents our age, and one that has always been at our side: cement.
We hope that, by contemplating the works constructed from cement and concrete by Kim Sang-gyun, this exhibition will offer an opportunity to reflect on the urban spaces we live in and on the meaning of our lives within them.
