《Romance of Pavilions in the Joseon Dynasty》 42nd Korean Traditional Incised Woodcarving Preservation Association Exhibition OPEN!
Hanyang University Museum has today opened the rental exhibition 《Romance of Pavilions in the Joseon Dynasty》. Come and encounter the pavilion name plaques and the master artisans of gakja (incised-letter carving) who are carrying on the tradition of this art.
For this exhibition, the pavilion Saryunjeong has been newly produced. Based on documentary records, master carpenter Kim Youngseong, designated as an intangible cultural heritage bearer of Jeollanam-do, and his disciples have recreated Saryunjeong at full scale. For plaques that are not recorded in written sources, new versions have been created to match the scale of Saryunjeong. The calligraphy for the plaques was written by calligrapher Midang Lee Pilsuk, and the incised-letter carving (gakja) was executed by Gowon Kim Gakhan, a national intangible cultural heritage holder in incised-letter carving.
At the exhibition site, you can even go up onto the structure yourself, so we hope you will come and enjoy it.
At the venue, visitors may take one copy each of the “Nationwide Pavilion Distribution Map” and the “Floor Plan Types of Korean Pavilions.”
We look forward to your interest.
