In Korea, the foundation for the transition from Earthenware (土器) to Porcelain (磁器) was established during the Unified Silla period. The Goryeo Dynasty saw the flourishing of various types of Porcelain, centering on Celadon. In particular, Inlaid Celadon (Sang-gam cheongja), which developed by applying the Inlay technique to Porcelain, established an aesthetic unique to Goryeo. Joseon Dynasty Porcelain can be broadly divided into Buncheong Ware (Puncheong Sagi) and White Porcelain (Baekja). Buncheong Ware, based on the tradition of Inlaid Celadon from the late Goryeo period, is characterized by its unpretentious, natural charm. White Porcelain, founded on Neo-Confucianism, is characterized by both practicality and rigorous refinement. We invite you to appreciate the journey of Ceramics from Pure celadon of the Goryeo Dynasty to Blue and White Porcelain of the Joseon Dynasty.
